Second grade students at East Side Primary were busy as bees during the year. In early September they invited their Grandparents to come and eat lunch with them to celebrate Grandparent's Day. Later in September, they measured and weighed apples during their study of Johnny Appleseed. They ended their study of apples by making and tasting Apple Butter. The second graders enjoyed the visit of author Dave Sargent who authored the Animal Pride Series they enjoy reading. Firemen came to the class in October and taught the children fire prevention techniques.During American Education Week in November, Superintendent Mike Bone came and read aloud the book My Great Aunt Arizona. For Thanksgiving the children turned into chefs when they cooked their own breakfast in the classroom. It would not be Christmas without a visit from Santa who arrived with the book The Night Before Christmas and read it aloud to a gym of cheering fans! The students enjoyed a visit from a dentist during Dental Health Week. In May, the Mothers were honored by their children with a Mother's Day Brunch. After such a busy year, the second graders and their teachers earned their summer vacation!
