Dear Parent or Guardian,
We would like to welcome you and your child to the sixth grade at Harris Middle School. It should prove to be an interesting, busy, and challenging year for your child. We pledge our best efforts to your child's education, and we look forward to working with you in a cooperative relationship.
One way that we need your support is with our assertive discipline program. This is a simple set of rules with an established set of consequences if the rules are broken. Please read the rules and consequences that follow and keep them at home for a handy reference. We think you will agree that the rules are simple ones, and if followed, will allow a classroom atmosphere beneficial to all students.
Rules:
Consequences:
*Other discipline techniques may be used throughout the year, as we deem necessary.
Failure to turn in homework (which is viewed as necessary practice work) will be treated as rule number 3.
The teachers in Block "B" discourage mechanical pencils at all. If your child brings those, we will not be responsible for stolen, misplaced, or broken ones. If the pencil is disruptive, another pencil will be issued to the student immediately. The mechanical pencil will be taken and given back at the end of the next day.
Be sure to familiarize yourself with the school information located in the handbook. Also, look over "Tips for a Terrific Year."
Again, we are delighted to have your child in our classes. We operate within these rules so that your student might have a most productive and enjoyable year. Please don't ever hesitate to call if you have any questions.

Please snip off this bottom section, sign it, and have your child return it to his/her homeroom teacher.
I have read the rules and consequences for behavior, and I agree that they are fair. I pledge my best efforts to my child's education and look forward to working with you.
