The "EAGLE" Newsletter

From the Principal--School is off to a wonderful start. I really appreciate the effort you are making getting your child/children to school on time. Remember to slow down when coming around the building in the mornings. Thank you for remembering to display your pickup number, it has been a great help.

Keep in mind the correct way to enter and exit the school grounds in order to pick your child up or to let them off in the morning. They are supposed to be let out and picked up at the gym door. If you come into the building with your child you must come in the front door, sign in and get a visitor’s badge. If your child is being picked up by someone who is not the usual pickup person, please send a note to the school telling us who will be picking your child up.

Head lice: Remember to check your child/children for head lice. Remind them not to use combs, etc. that belong to others. The children are not to wear hats nor are they to wear the triangular scarves.

Fire Drills—We will be having a fire drill each 20 days and will have tornado practices during the school year.

Ident A Kid and school pictures will be made in October. More information will follow as these dates near.

News from the cafeteria—We are changing our serving line. The cafeteria staff will be serving the children grades K-2. Grades 3-6 will continue to be self-serve. Salads are offered only on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Potato Bar on Tuesday and Thursday. The sack lunch is the only item that is served every day. Take a minute and go over the menu with your child/children and see what they might want each day. The menu is always in the newsletter.

News from PE—Basketball and Jr. Pro information will be out at a later date.

Coats--If any of you are missing coats, we have a sack full of them. I am going to give them to needy children if they are not claimed. PLEASE—PLEASE put your child’s name in their coats and jackets. We have a terrible time trying to track down who these lost pieces of clothing belong to.

News from the Library—Eric and Ethan Scott have donated AR books to our library. Three of these books are in honor of Aaron Johnson, Anthony Rogers and Ms. Rose. Thank you!

Please remember to save Campbell’s labels and General Mills Boxtops. The labels are exchanged for items for our school such as videos, equipment, etc. We receive cash for the boxtops and this cash is used to purchase books for our library. Each boxtop is worth 10 cents. Please ask your family and friends to save these items for us. See attached papers for examples of products. Thank you for your help! If we work together, we can see our library grow.

Ms. Susan Anderton donated a nice item to our AR store. Thank you, Ms. Anderton!

I would like to thank the BPTO for donating money at the end of last year to purchase AR books for our library. I was able to purchase 2 sets of books and will very soon have them on the shelf for checkout.  Rocky and Dottie Morris have purchased a book from our library in honor of their son’s birthday. Happy Birthday, Evan Morris!

News from the BPTO—I hope everyone is getting back into their routine. Our first meeting of the year was held last Tues. August 21st in the school cafeteria. We had great participation. A "big thanks" to the parents/families and teachers who came out to support the BPTO. We had our elections and the following elected positions are:

President—Frankie Taylor

Vice President—Pat Martin

Secretary—Terri Lee

Treasurer—Amy May

After elections we focused on our fundraisers for the upcoming school year. A suggestion was made for the BPTO to host an annual Fall Festival (at Broadview School) in November and our Country Music Show in March. A vote was taken and it was decided that these were the two fund-raisers that we would sponsor. We would like to have you at our next meeting. We will be working on organizing committees for the Harvest Festival. Come and get involved in your child’s school. "BROADVIEW BPTO NEEDS YOU"!!!!!! Frankie Taylor

If for some reason your child does not get home with his newsletter, visit our web site volweb.utk.edu/school/bviewele/. I am going to make an effort to have the newsletter on the website each week. Mr. Terry Hayes is doing our web page. A big thanks to Terry.
