In addition the computers are etherneted with access to the World Wide Web using the Netscape browser. There is no charge for equipment use. Computers are not reserved, but are available on a "first come" basis.
Computer assistance by Curriculum Lab Staff is limited to hardware support only. Users will need to have prior knowledge of software packages or see their instructor for assistance with assignments.
Software Preview Center
As a software demonstration center, the Curriculum Lab provides the Education community the opportunity to preview the latest in educational and productivity software. The Lab is a software demonstration center for Broderbund, Discis, EdMark, Microsoft, and Tom Snyder. We also currently house titles for Grolier, Houghton Mifflin, StickyBear, and Logal. Many of the new adoption textbooks also contain software components available for preview.
Software Demos
A function of the Preview Center is to demonstrate the various software titles in the collection. Each semester the Lab staff load different software pieces on the Macintoshes. The students and faculty may find them in the Educational Software folder on the hard drive. The Lab staff is always available to assist faculty members with software in the collection. Professors may also request demonstrations of software titles in their classes
Educational Outreach
Another function of the Preview Center is to travel to area schools so teachers in the classrooms may see what is available in the Curriculum Lab. The Lab staff make arrangements by request to work with individual teachers or a school. This service gives teachers an opportunity to preview titles they may be interested in purchasing.
