On Your Mark,Get Set, GO........ To High School Grundy County has a high drop out rate and a significant number of students become drop outs during the transition between elementary and high school. For this reason Project: Early Start was developed. The goal of Project: Early Start is: 100% of all 1998-99 Grundy County 8th grade students will graduate from high school in 2004. All 8th graders from across the county will become familiar with the high school's physical environment, meet the staff, become acquainted with the typical routine of freshman schedules, understand the rules of conduct, discover options for help should they encounter problems of any nature, receive counseling for study paths, career clusters, curriculum options. Eighth grade students will be bused to the high school for ten sessions designed to make them feel secure about coming to high school. A team of high school teachers, central office personnel and guidance counselors developed a curriculum that will be taught to these students. This years' Early Start team of educators is: Counselors-Phyllis Lusk, Beth Shrader, and Margaret Nunley Central Office-Martha Nixon High School Teachers: Mike Ray working with Monteagle and Pelham students, Tina Arbuckle working with Tracy City students, Daryl Brown also working with Tracy City students, Karen Meeks working with Palmer and Coalmont students, William Childers working with North students and Christy Morrison will work with students from Swiss Memorial.
