Welcome 4th Graders and Parents!!

The Fourth Grade teachers at Madison Creek would like to welcome you and your child to a fresh, new school year. We have a busy year, and we are very excited to work with you!

The first date to mark on your calendar is Thursday, August 30, 2001. MCE is having Parent's Night to welcome you back to school. We ask that at least one parent attend. Your child's teacher will explain classroom routines, schedules, and 4th grade curriculum. This is also a time to ask us questions that you may have.

You may be wondering, %¥hat could I be doing this summer to start my child on the right foot?" Well, the answer is easy. Practice multiplication facts and cursive writing. These skills will help your child tremendously!

In the beginning of February, your child will be taking a TCAP writing assessment. Your child will be asked to write a descriptive narrative for 30 minutes on a writing prompt. We will be spending quite a bit of time writing and improving our writing skills to help your child prepare for the assessment.

MCE will continue using Accelerated Reading this year, and we will begin an Accelerated Math program. Your child will be testing on 4th grade math objectives at his/her own pace. The added 30 minutes to the school day will help us implement the program. We are thrilled to kick off Accelerated Math with our 4th graders!

We are planning possible field trips this year to the TN State Capital/State Museum, the

Tennessean, Frist Center, Mansker's Station, Gallatin Fossil Power Plant, and Old Hickory Dam.

The fourth grade teachers at Madison Creek Elementary School are dedicated to providing a safe learning environment where children can realize success in a structured, yet relaxed, atmosphere. Your child' s teacher will give you a copy of your child's class rules and consequences. We ask that you read these rules and discuss them with your child. Please sign the attached form and return it to the school so the teacher will know that you have had a chance to be informed of the discipline policy.

Our rules are simple, and we believe that fourth-grade students should be able to follow these rules with minimal reminders from us. The basic tenet for all our school roles is respect. After Labor Day, we will not give warnings. Students who continually disrupt class will be removed so that others can learn. We will notify you of problems. We request your immediate attention to rectify those problems.

We cannot wait for this year to begin, and we hope you are just as excited. Thank you for checking out our web page. We also included our class lists, wish lists, and fees.

Thank you,
