Dear Parents,

WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL! We are very excited to be your child's teacher. We look forward to the challenge, and we are requesting your assistance in helping the students have a successful year. There are several routines and disciplines that are part of the learning process that will be used in our room. Below is an explanation of some of the things we feel that you, as a parent, should, be aware of to help begin our year on a positive note.

*Students are always to have the necessary materials for class. Please help by checking with your child periodically to see if they need new crayons, scissor, glue, pencils, markers, etc. Please purchase new supplies as needed.

*Homework and daily work are expected to be turned in on time. Children are expected to become responsible for their own assignments and personal belongings. Reading homework will be assigned two nights a week, with other homework assigned when needed. Homework may vary according to your child's teacher.

*Weekly papers are sent home in an envelope with a sign-off sheet on the front. Please look over these papers. A smiley face, check plus, or minus is a daily practice and a numerical grade is a recorded grade in the grade book.

*Scheduling of special classes will be flexible for the first few weeks. I will send home a copy of our schedule as soon as it is permanent.

*Juice break will be taken each morning. This needs to be something your child can drink while working on seat work.

*Breakfast and lunch are both served daily. Please see the supply list for pricing information for meals. Students who charge their lunch need to pay the following day.

*Birthday parties are to be celebrated outside of school or with simple refreshments that can be incorporated into our juice break or lunch. Please do not send invitations to be passed out unless all students are invited (Feelings can be hurt very easily).

*Parent volunteers are a teacher's life-saver. There are many things that need to be done to help the students. Please let us know if you can help. Send a note if you missed the sign-up sheet on registration day.

*Discipline. Discipline corresponds with High Five Discipline Plan.

*Parent-Teacher conferences are scheduled for October. If you have any concerns before then, please feel free to call the office at 859-4991 or send a note to school with your child. I will respond as soon as possible.

We are looking forward to an exciting and challenging year with your child. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Second Grade Teachers
