Aleutian World War II National Park

By: Lennon

This area was used to protect the U.S. from Japanese invasion.  Dutch Harbor, a place in the Aleutians, was attacked by the Japanese on June 3, 1942.  These attacks on the Aleutians would last from December 7, 1941 to August 15, 1943.  Located between the Bering Sea and the Pacific Ocean, this 1,100 mile long archipelago has been , and continues to be, the focus of climatic and tectonic events.  It is even thought that at least 26 of the chain's fifty-seven volcanoes have erupted within the past two centuries.
