Alaska Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve

By : Jarret

The Alaska Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve was created by the State of Alaska in June of 1982.  The preserve was built to protect and perpetuate the world's largest number of Bald Eagles and their habitat.  It consists of about 48,000 acres of river bottom land of the Chilkat, Klihent, and Tsirkir Rivers that flow through the preserve.  The preserve protects salmon that live in the rivers.  There are five species of salmon that live in the rivers of the preserve.  There has been over 3,000 Bald Eagles counted within the preserve during the Fall Congregation.
