Klondike Gold Rush National Park

GOLD! GOLD! GOLD!
Those were the headlines that sent 100,000 people to Alaska in 1897.
Only a few struck it rich. On July 14, 1897, the Excelsior (ship)
unloaded miners heavy with gold in San Francisco. In all they had
$2 million, over two tons of gold. Among these millionaires was former
YMCA Secretaries Tom and Sloan Lippy. They brought back $80,000 in
gold.
This park was dedicated to the men who found the gold and built the
city. The park and museum is a big part of Skagway. The town
includes the first house built by Captain William Moore. A few years
later his son Ben built a house for his wife and three kids. It also
includes the mascot and Patheon Saloon.
