Norman Vaughn
by Warren

Norman Vaughn was a musher.  He tried really hard, he once said," Dream big! Young and old, dream big and dare to fail."  Norman said that upon climbing the Antarctic mountain named after him at age 89.   Mr. Vaughn learned to drive dogs in 1925, in 1953 he came to Alaska.  His motto was, "All the way." Meaning he wouldn't stop, but keep going.  Mr. Vaughn successfully completed the Iditarod® in 1990 at the age of 83, after hard ships had forced him out of earlier races. In my opinion,  Norman Vaughn was a great musher. His Hall of Fame plaque reads in part "His beautiful expression of a desire for the best from himself and on every trail inspires all who come in contact with him - the young and the young at heart."
