1925 Serum Run
Christina, Lauren, Elyse, & Pete
Mr. Eddy’s 5th Grade

In 1925 countless children were exposed to a deadly disease called diptheria.  The disease could only be cured by a medicine called serum. The doctor in Nome only had a small portion of serum.

A train carried the serum from Anchorage to Nenana. Frank Knight conducted this train.   Then, William Shannon took the serum by dog sled to Tolovana. The person that finished the run was Gunnar Kaasen.

The person that rode the least was named George Nollner.  He rode 18 miles.  The person that rode the most was named Charlie Olson.  He rode 260 miles.

The dogs in the run worked so fast the serum arrived in Nome one week after leaving Anchorage!
