Mr. Jack Hanes/Principal

At Westmoreland Middle School, our theme is:

Even though the primary focus of this theme is for the students, we expect every staff member who works at WMS to structure his/her performance each day by this philosophy. Our top priority is to provide the optimum educational experience for every student.

Westmoreland is a rural community located in the northeast corner of Sumner County, which borders the Kentucky state line in the north central part of Tennessee.

Our school serves grades 6-8, and enrollment is currently approximately 400. Our mission is to challenge the students to do their best and take more initiative to develop their physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth so that they become life-long learners and productive citizens.

WMS has been accredited with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools for a number of years, and student achievement scores usually range above state and national averages.

The academic program includes math, language, reading, science, social studies, SEARCH (for gifted students), physical education, computer skills, art, music/band, teen living, diversified technology, special education inclusion, resource, and extended resource classes.

Extracurricular activities include basketball, football, intramurals, FCA, Youth Power, Student Council, Junior Beta, 4-H, band, and chorus. Other than the WMS guidance counselor, other support services offered are group therapy sessions through Cumberland Mental Health, and site-based individual therapy through Dede Wallace Mental Health Center.
