8th Reading

The year begins with "Interest Presentations", in which the students research a topic of particular interest to them, and share their expertise with the class. This is followed with a unit on folklore in which students will write and tell original stories after they have heard Mrs. Shaffer of Gallatin, spin yarns.

Halloween is the time to study Poe's life and works. Students participate in a play centered around Poe's life which leads into the drama unit.

After the class studies several plays, each class will choose their own director and cast and compete for the WMS Academy Awards.

Y2K will begin with the Titanic, a novel unit, and with parents' help students will celebrate with the "Last Dinner on the Titanic". (The dinner will be an after school activity.)

In the spring, students will present an interview on 60's topics with a local citizen, then they will end the year with the annual "Public Speaking Contest".
