Joyce Browder is BHS's head librarian/media specialist.  Ms. Browder's philosophy  is:  "Have a positive attitude, work hard, have fun, play fair, dream big, and make a difference."
Originally from Brighton, Ms. Browder graduated from Munford High.  She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin.  She received her master’s plus 45
hours at Memphis State University.
Even though Ms. Browder is a self-starter, she is motivated to do extra things for her school
because of the enthusiastic and supportive faculty and staff, an outstanding student body, and an involved and caring community.
Ms. Browder is certified as a K-12 librarian, K-12 professional administrator, and business
education teacher.  She has been in education for 35 years.   She began her career as a business
education teacher at Ribault High School in Jacksonville, Florida, where her husband, Allan was
stationed in the U. S. Navy.  She taught four years at Ribault and taught night school for two years at Jacksonville State Community College.  She taught one year at Stanley High School in Stanley, Kansas.
She and her family returned to Tipton County in 1970.  She has taught at Garland Elementary,
Gilt Edge Elementary, Drummonds Elementary and Munford High School.  She became the high
school librarian at Munford in 1976.
Ms. Browder opened the new Munford High School Library in 1983 consolidating the old
Brighton High and old Munford High libraries.  When the new Brighton High opened she requested a transfer to have the opportunity to open a new library with new materials.
With the new school, new library, new administration and faculty, Ms. Browder feels she has
revitalized her career.  She is very happy with her career move.  She said, "The change has been very good for me after 25 years with one school."
Ms. Browder and her husband, Allan, have been married for 33 years.  The couple has five
children.  Two sons and a daughter--Lance, Allan Jr., and Pam-- live in north Georgia.  Their son,
Sean, lives in Nashville.   Their youngest son, Steven, lives in Covington and is a deputy with the Tipton County Sheriff’s Department.  The couple has seven grandchildren.
Born and raised in Tipton County, she has many family members in the Brighton area.  Her
parents were Rubin Ellis "Goose" Hutchison and Annie Laura Jackson Hutchison.  Her brother, Harry Hutchison, lives in Covington. Her aunt, Odell Trotter, was the post master for the Brighton Post Office for 25 years.
Her hobbies are writing, computers, and spending time with her husband and grandchildren.  Her hobbies of writing and computers coincide with her work which she enjoys tremendously.  She was the editor of the school newsletter, "The Cardinal Chronicle" (originator),  for BHS's first four years and wrote the weekly school column for The Covington Leader during  BHS's fifth year.   She also created  the school’s web site (Brighton High School).  In 2001 she created and maintains the web site for the Brighton High Library Media Center.
Her goal for the future is become a high school administrator.
