(Tennessee Oilers, UT Vols, UM Tigers, Vanderbilt Commodores, TTU Golden Eagles, TSU Tigers)
Gathering of Statistical Data

Create a template similar to the Tennessee Football Comparison template and have students gather weekly data for each of the Tennessee teams you or they have chosen for the specific sport being analyzed. (you may want to modify the lists for your grade level). You can have the students work in groups or individually to gather information for each team. Much of the statistics can be obtained from the individual universities' sports pages on the internet and from the professional teams' websites, but information is also available in major city newspapers.

Graphing Statistical Data

Using the statistics they gathered, the students can make various types of graphs and charts to compare a team’s weekly performances, comparison between Tennessee teams or a combination of both.

Picture of an "Average" Player

Using rosters from the teams, have students draw comparisons of how an "average" player on each team would look (weight, height, age, etc.)

Who’s the Top of Tennessee?

Using the total team statistics for the year, compare all the teams used in the project.

Have students write a paper, create a presentation, write a letter to a sports editor or a combination of these that would give a convincing argument for the MVP in Tennessee and the top team in Tennessee.
