THE BLOCKADE RUNNER
The Blockade Runner, a store in downtown Wartrace, is owned by the Jerry Smith family of Wartrace. The store has been open eight years and was originally located in the Smith home. After the size of the store outgrew the home, they relocated to the old mill building in downtown Wartrace. The store carries merchandise such as antiques; jewelry; reproduced clothing of the Civil war era; authentic uniforms of World Wars I and II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War; Civil War propaganda; and local artifacts. The merchandise in the store expresses the family's interest in reenactments of Civil War battles. The Smith family has been active in reenactments for eight years and participates in events in the Southeast; however, these events take place all over the United States about every weekend.
