Visitors to the Thomas Hughes Library will find it just as it was more than a century ago, when Rugby's early colonists enjoyed its reading pleasures. The 7,000 volume collection of Victorian period literature and all furnishings are original to the building. The building follows the Victorian architecture of the other buildings and is painted its original colors.
The library was the pride of the colonists and many volumes were donated by admirers and publishers. Literary societies and dramatic clubs fluorished and a newspaper was published weekly called The Rugbeian.
