Following trails built in the 1880's, the water hole was to be used only by the men of Rugby. Today many people come to this attraction to enjoy the beauty and relaxation of an afternoon picnic or a refreshing swim.
The Witch's Cave is one of the many historical attractions at the Gentlemen's Swimming Hole. Although it is not a true cave, the weathering of the sandstone rocks will cause the formation of rock shelters. For many decades Rugby residents have called this structure the Witch's Cave.
Both the Gentlemen's Swimming Hole and the Meeting of the Waters on the Clear Fork River are now part of the Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area.
