The Blizzard of '96![]()
One of the most spectacular blizzards was on Jan. 6-8, 1996 in the Northeastern part of the U.S. There were many reasons for the blizzard like a strong low pressure system and a cold air mass sitting stationary over the Northeast. The cold air mass was the main reason for the heavy snowfall like in Philadelphia were there was 30.7 inches or in Newark, NJ with a total of 27.8". Other large amounts include: D.C. 17.1"
