Nutations stimulated by ethylene in Growing Etiolated Columbia-0 Hypocotyls
In this movie wild-type seedlings were treated with air (white background) for 2
hour followed by 17 hours of 10 mL L-1
ethylene (black background). Images were captured every 15 min. Back lighting
was provided by an infrared LED so the plants are seen in silhouette. Of the
five receptor isoforms in Arabidopsis, only ETR1 is both necessary and
sufficient for ethylene-stimulated nutations (Binder
et al., 2006;
Kim et al., 2011).
Further work has uncovered that the five receptor isoforms have both overlapping
and unique roles in controlling growth (Kim
et al., 2011;
Bakshi
et al., 2015).
