JMP Tutorial:
Using Different Symbols for Different Groups in Graphical Displays


Click the link below and save the following JMP file to your Desktop:

Now go to your Desktop and double click on the JMP file you just downloaded.
This action will start JMP and display the content of this file:


This tutorial uses the scatter plot as an example of a graphical display, but this procedure can be used in many JMP graphics.

Click the Analyze menu and select Fit Y by X.
Click the y=Strength column then click Y, Response.
Click the x=Thickness column then click X,Factor.
You should see:

Click OK.
You should see something similar to the following:

Click the Rows menu and select Color or Mark By Column....
Select the Supplier column.
You should now see:

Clicking OK now will update the scatter plot with the two colors of dots shown on the right.  Additionally, for your color blind audience, you can use different symbols.

Click on the down arrow next to Markers: None and select Solid.
You should now see:

Click OK.
You should now see:

To remind yourself which symbol goes with which group, return to the JMP data file.
You should see:
