Jan 2024: Emmanuel and Miranda's paper on beauvericin is published in J. Phys. Chem. B. This is Emmanuel's first first-author paper. Good luck with CRP.

Dec 2023: Dami returned after one-semester internship at Eli Lily.

Oct 2023: Miranda's paper on Solvent-Free Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy of Charged Molecules is published in J. Phys. Chem. A

Sep 2023: Thanh is awarded the Eli Lily and Co. Young Investigator Award in Analytical Chemistry.

Jan-Aug 2023: Some major highlights:
  • Alex did a summer internship at AbbVie.
  • Connor published his first-author paper in JASMS. Alex was an excellent mentor.
  • Dami published her co-first author paper in ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces on the fibrillization and crystal formation of cysteine/cystine pair. Miranda is a co-author.
  • Miranda is the Department of Defense Science, Mathematics, and Research for Transformation (DoD SMART) Scholarship-for-Service 2023 Semi-Finalist and also the Charles W. Keenan Teaching Award Winner.
  • Thanh was a speaker of The Future of Ion Mobility Mass Spectrometry at the Measurement Science

Nov 2022: Our Corticosterone/Insulin work is published in J. Proteome Research. Congratulations to Alex and Connor!

Aug 2022: Miranda is one of the 8 Winners of the PHYS Poster Awards at the Fall ACS meeting in Chicago.

July 2022: Thanh returned to UIUC to attend and give a presentation at the 5th International Conference of D-Amino Acid Research.

July 2022: Amber successfully defended her PhD thesis. Congratulations, Dr. Gray!

July 2022: We have the first JACS paper on Cyclosporine A! The three reviewers helped us improve the quality of the manuscript significantly. Derek Lowe at In the Pipeline wrote a cool piece of commentary about our work .

June 2022: Connor is heading to medical school. We will miss him much.

June 2022: Miranda received the ACS Bridge Travel Award to attend the Fall ACS Conference in Chicago.

May 2022: Dami's work on charge isomers of m-xylene and pyridyl macrocycles is published in JASMS. This is the third paper from our collaboration with the Shimizu group at USC.

May 2022: Miranda is among 10 graduate students accepted to the 2022 MagLab User Summer School at National High Magnetic Field Laboratory in Tallahassee, FL. Dami is going to attend the 24th National School on Neutron and X-Ray Scattering. She will spend time at Argonne National Laboratory and Oak Ridge National Laboratory.

April 2022: Thanh gave a seminar at Vanderbilt's Chemistry Colloquium.

April 2022: Amber and Alex received the GSS Research and Teaching Awards. Congrats!.

March 2022: Thanh received the 2022 ASMS Research Award.

March 2022: Thanh gave a talk at US HUPO (The HUman Proteome Organization) 2022.

December 2021: Our work on toxic amyloid oligomers is finally published in Protein Science.

December 2021: Thanh gave a talk on a new class of amyloid oligomers linking selective cellular vulnerability to disrupted lipid metabolism at the ASMS Asilomar Conference in Monterey, CA.

October 2021: Connor and Alex presented posters in person at the ASMS Fall 2021 conference in Philadelphia.

September 2021: Connor will continue to be supported by the Office of Undergraduate Research to do research part time in our lab this Fall.

August 2021: Alex's work on brominated-triphenylamines in collaboration with the Shimizu group is in press at J Phys Chem C.

August 2021: Amber and Alex gave oral presentations at the ACS Fall 2021 conference in Atlanta. Dami gave a poster. ACS press release on Alex's talk can be found here.

June 2021: Dami's work in collaboration with the Gazit group at Tel Aviv University is in press at PNAS.

June 2021: Thanh was named one of the Outstanding Reviewers for PCCP in 2020.

May 2021: Congratulations to Amber and Alex. Amber was awarded the Judson Hall Robertson Fellowship in Analytical Chemistry and Alex was awarded the Keenan Teaching Award.

April 2021: Connor will be supported by the Summer Undergraduate Research Internship Program to do research full time in our lab this summer.

March 2021: Amber is the recipient of the prestigious Eastman Summer Fellowship. Congratulations!

March 2021: Congratulations to Amber, Alex, and Ben for their outstanding work on CGRP and insulin secretion accepted for publication in Chemical Science. We were able to show that CGRP disrupts amylin aggregation, suppresses Ins2 but stimulates Ins1 secretion in isolated single mouse islets.

February 2021: Amber and Isaac's work on Cyclosporine A is published in Jounal of Physical Chem B. Dr. Carlos Steren taught and helped us with all of the NMR experiments.

July 2020: Amber's first work in the group on PSMĪ±3 peptides is published in Analytical Chemistry. Alex and Dami are co-authors. Good job, everyone!

July 2020: Amber received the Keenan Teaching Award. Congratulations!

May 2020: Ben and Issac were selected as Outstanding Graduate(s) in Chemistry. Congratulations!

April 2020: Our undergraduate students Ben Link and Isaac Haynes will officially join the PhD Chemistry programs at University of Washington and Texas A&M University next Fall. In addition to their outstanding academic achievements, both excelled at refilling nitrogen-dewars.

April 2020: Ben's manuscript on characterizations of the Shimizu group's m-xylene macrocycles is accepted for publication in PCCP.

April 2020: Amber presented and passed her CRP. Congratulations!

January 2020: Amber received the UTK Graduate Student Senate Travel Award to attend the Lake Arrowhead Ion Chemistry Conference. We thank the Department and College for their support.

October 2019: Isaac's work on water-soluble biscationic macrocycles in collaboration with the Li group at Zhejiang University, China is published in Analytical Chemistry.
