In 2011, the UTK ASCE Steel Bridge team placed third overall at the 2011 Southeast Regional Conference hosted at Tennessee Tech University. This qualified them to compete at the National competition hosted at Texas A&M University
The 2011 team consisted of Captain Chris Haynes, Alex Merritt, Nathan Foust, Jason Buel, Matt Hart, Will Hamill, and Dai Wen Chen. Faculty Advisor Dr. John Ma also attended the competition.
The 2012 steel bridge team brought home 3 trophies from the 2012 Southeast Regional Student Conference hosted by Florida State University and Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, FL. The team placed 1st with their visual display, 3rd in construction speed, and 3rd in economy. The team would like to thank the faculty and sponsors for their support.
In 2013 the steel bridge team place 1st in stiffness and 4th overall. The 2013 ASCE Southeastern Student conference was held in Miami, FL hosted by Florida International University and The University of Miami. Two of this year's steel bridge team members, who will also be next year's captain's, Tyler Henderson and Ty Rogers will be traveling to Nationals this year to observe what other schools are doing, and to perhaps bring back some new ideas for next year.
The 2014 Steel Bridge Team placed 1st in Visual Display and 5th Overall at the Southeast Student Conference. The 2014 Southeast Student Conference was hosted by the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida.
