MEDICAL PRINTS AND DRAWINGS FROM THE HOKES ARCHIVES
Everitt Ormsby Hokes was involved in the publication of medical bookplates since the founding of the Hokes Scholarly Lithography in 1901. The archives includes examples of most of the works published by Hokes, with the exception of the rare full-body lymphatic diagram published in 1908 by the Hokes in collaboration with Dr. Reynaldo Copenhagen of the Institute for Electro-Magnetic Therapy. The only known copy of this portfolio is in the Ars Medical Collection at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
This collection includes many elaborate color lithographs for English, American, French and German publications. One of the most unusual is an English translation of The Philosophy of Leibniz which includes a series of gastro-intestinal renderings. The collection also includes a set of elaborate color pencil "dissection drawings" prepared by Hokes for an unpublished anatomical catalogue have been compiled into a traveling exhibition. The exhibition is comprised of 25 works presented in hardwood, museum-standard frames. The exhibition includes an introductory text panel about the collection.
This exhibition travels in wooden crates designed for shipping by common carrier. It fills 120 feet of running wall space, and is available without a rental fee, with insurance and shipping to be covered by the exhibitor. To schedule this exhibition, contact Beauvais Lyons
