Welcome to the Liss Lab, where we focus on cutting-edge research in materials science and engineering. Our team is dedicated to exploring new frontiers in the field through the exploitation of in situ and real-time neutron and synchrotron X-ray studies, merging the disciplines of instrumentation, materials science, physics, information technologies, and engineering. We place a particular emphasis on the structural and microstructural changes of materials and their responses to external parameters.
We tackle materials for applications under extreme conditions, such as ultrahigh temperature, high pressure, severe plastic deformation, rapid thermal cycling, strong radiation, hypersonics, and shock. Our goal is also to produce novel functional materials through processing at these extremes.
Our research is conducted within larger collaborations and programs in an interdisciplinary and collegial approach.
Please explore these web pages to find information about the Liss Lab group, including research highlights, expertise, group members, collaborations, teaching pamphlets, technical lab outlines, procedures, and more.
We are always open to discussions and collaborations and actively seek graduate students eager to engage in forefront research at some of the world's flagship facilities.
