"Welcome Distraction."
Beginning in 2018 I began to co-organize and DJ dance parties under the name Welcome Distraction. The idea was to collaborate with friends; print flyers, promote and play music as something different and fun in a space that primarily hosts live music. It was about celebrating our creative community.
I’m sorry to say this program won’t be a collaborative effort but I feel the phrase Welcome Distraction makes more sense than ever. This past year has been difficult to say the least, we’ve all found ways to temporally step away from the ever-present weight of reality. Selecting, listening and dancing to music is one of the most effective (and healthy), distractions I can think of. I hope you enjoy! Be well, safe and creative.
Sarah Shebaro (MFA ‘08) is a multidisciplinary artist, printmaking instructor, designer and DJ residing in Knoxville, TN. She’s currently a printer and co-owner of Striped Light, a letterpress studio and cultural space that opened January of 2015. She has previously taught at the Pratt Institute (NYC), Manhattan Graphics Center, Southern Oregon University and the Penland School of Craft.
