Viewing and Pick-Up : Thursday, March 19, A Session, 10:00am-11:30am, KCC 200DE
Editions Due to Portfolio Organizer: December 15, 2014
Organized by James Boyd Brent, Josh Bindewald, and Margaret Franzen Borg
Email: jboydbre@umn.edu
The artists in this portfolio address their relationship with their world(s) using the dimensions that Martin Waldseemüller used in his “gore map” of 1507. Waldseemüller’s print is a two-dimensional map that could be stuck to a three-dimensional globe in order to create a globe map that was a spherical representation of the geographical knowledge of his day. Each artist will map his or her own sphere, inspired by this original gore prototype for spherical mapping.
Paper Size: 12 x 18
Image Size: 13.75 inch width by 7.25 inches - participants are encouraged to creatively explore the format of the Waldseemüller gore map within this image size.
Edition Size: 25
Technique: All prints should be made predominately by hand processes—carving, etching, engraving, drawing (lithography, intaglio, relief printing, screen printing) but may contain digitally–produced elements.
