The Prestigious Pi Epsilon chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was charted at the University of Tennessee  Knoxville on October 10, 1974 by eight zealous women. Those zealous women are Geraldine WatersonDebra Thompson, Sandra Turner, Lois Hall, Denniese Booker, Lynn Williams, Phyllis Lane, and Linda Clark.

The chapter was rechartered on December 13, 1992 by seven prestigious women, who we refer to as the “Seven Jewels of the Nile.” Those seven jewels are NaTasha McMahan, Stephanie Fields, Michelle Bookman, Kim Fontenot,  Alicia Johnson, Tisha Prather and Patricia LaRoy.

Since this time, Pi Epsilon Sorors have continued to emerge. Our differences give us strength and understanding. The spirit of true Zeta love ties Pi Epsilon Sorors together. As Zetas, we excel in academics as well as in the community and social aspects. We have held the Panhellenic scholarship banner, which is awarded each semester to the chapter with the highest GPA of the 19 Panhellenic Sororities, for two consecutive semesters. We participate each Spring in the March of Dimes Walk America; volunteer at the Stork’s Nest, a program established nationally by Zeta Phi Beta for pregnant youth, the Salvation Army, Lost Sheep Ministries and many more. Zetas also excel and provide leadership in many areas at UT, such as The Love United Gospel Choir, Collegiate Black Christians, Residence Life, Orientation, Scholarship Programs, The Pride of the Southland Marching Band, Academic Honor Societies, Student Government Association and many, many other activities that enhance both the community and the campus.

Our current awards include the 2016-2017 NPHC Chapter of the Year and the Highest GPA Award amongst the NPHC organizations with a 3.2 grade point average. Pi Epsilon prides themselves in the events and acts of service they bring to campus year to year, which include African American Women’s Appreciation Awards, Black Lives STILL Matter Series, Culture Night, Mr. ZQ Male Scholarship Pageant, Random Acts of Kindness and Sapphire Leadership Program.

Throughout the years, Prestigious Pi Epsilon may not have always had the highest quantities of members, but we have always had the highest quality of members!

Nu Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.

We are sponsored by the Nu Zeta graduate chapter of Knoxville, TN. Nu Zeta Chapter was chartered in May, 1934 in Knoxville, Tennessee under the vision of Soror Fannie C. Clay, Soror Carrie Williams McDade, and Brother D. W. Flack.  Charter members were Sorors Georgia Stone Davis, Valanie Williams Macklin, and Almeda Ford Drewery. The charting of Nu Zeta made the chapter Knoxville’s second African American graduate chapter sorority and it is one of the oldest Zeta graduate chapters within the state of Tennessee.

Kappa Chi chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Our brother chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. is Kappa Chi. Since the Kappa Chi Chapter was chartered on the University of Tennessee campus on January 18, 1979, their brotherhood has played pivotal roles in numerous facets of UT life. Our brothers have held memberships in SGA, Black Cultural Programming Committee, NAACP, Student African American Brotherhood, UT football and track teams, Collegiate Black Christians, and numerous others. Several of their alumni have also graduated and moved on with successful lives and careers after college and still hold the spirit of Kappa Chi dear in their hearts. We appreciate them for all of their support and strive for a stronger sibling bond because “The Ball is Rolling.”
