Top GPAs for Epsilon Eta
The brothers of Epsilon Eta have continued to excel academically over the past few semesters. Each semester during the 2011-12 academic year the active chapter finished amount the Top 10 fraternities on campus. Fall 2011 the active obtained a 2.97 GPA and during Spring 2012 the chapter GPA was 2.90.
The candidate class for both Fall 2009 & Fall 2010 finished among the top 10 on campus. In Fall 2009 the candidates had a 2.97 GPA, the third highest on campus. Fall 2010, the candidate class had a 2.82 GPA, the ninth highest on campus.
The Epsilon Eta chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity finished the 2009 Spring Semester with the third highest GPA on campus. The fraternity finished with a 3.11 GPA for the semester.
Carolina Cup
Each Spring semester the brothers of Epsilon Eta and their dates attend Carolina Cup in Camden, South Carolina. The town of Camden is a great place to spend a few days and enjoy the horse races. This year Epsilon Eta attended the 80th anniversary of Carolina Cup.
Greek Week 2012 Sigma Nu finishes Runner Up
Each spring semester the Greek Community competes in the annual Greek Week competition. This year's theme was Greeks Love the 90's. Campus Greek organizations are paired together to compete against each other and to join with other organizations to build a Habitat for Humanity home for a Knoxville family. This year Sigma Nu joined Phi Mu, Beta Upsilon Chi and Phi Delta Theta for the week long competition. The four organizations finished second out of the fourteen teams who competed. The organizations competed in such events as a volleyball tournament, Trivia Night, a Dessert Bake off, Banner Drop and All Greek Photo.
Homecoming 2011
Fall semester the All Campus events committee sponsored its annual Homecoming Week events. The brothers of Sigma Nu joined with Alpha Chi Omega sorority to compete. They participated in large banner division, Smokey's Howl, window display and built a float. The chapters combined to spend hundreds of hours working together to make Homecoming 2011 a great week at the Sigma Nu house.
Founder's Day
The Chapter held their annual Founder's Day event on Saturday, April 21 for alumni and the family members of each brother. A luncheon was held at the Sigma Nu house and an evening dinner at the Crown Plaza in downtown Knoxville. The speaker for the evening was Jeff Cathey, Associate Dean of Students. The chapter names Taylor Wilkins as Brother of the Year, Tim Paton as Scholar of the Year, Patrick Godsey as Alumni of the Year and Andrew Leuthold as Alumni of the Year. The alumni presented John Shoemaker, Ron Sherrill and Ray Morgan as new members in the chapters Torchbearer Society.
Greek Awards banquet
At the annual Greek Awards banquet Sigma Nu Fraternity was well represented. Commander Parker Loy received the Sophomore of the Year Award and Mason McGlamery received the Senior of the Year award. In addition, the chapter was award second place in the annual greek with competition. The chapter teamed with Phi Mu, Beta Upsilon Chi and Phi Delta Theta.
Annual Neyland Stadium Visit, Fall 2011
Each fall semester the brothers and candidates of Sigma Nu tour the locker rooms and luxury boxes. Fall 2011 was no different as members of the chapter tour both areas of Neyland Stadium.
Family Weekend Dinner
The Sigma Nu Chapter hosted over 90 guests for a Family Weekend Dinner on Friday, September 9 at the Foundry. Chairman-Elect of the Board of Directors of the Sigma Nu Educational Foundation and immediately past Regent (National President) Brother Joe Gilman was the guest speaker. Brother Gilman challenged the chapter to live the principles of Sigma Nu, to visit the National Headquarters in Lexington, Virginia, to fully develop the leadership program for the chapter and most importantly to “take care of your Brothers.” Epsilon Eta member and Housing Corp President discussed the building and history of the new fraternity house.
Epsilon Eta Honors Member
The Epsilon Eta chapter of Sigma Nu Fraternity honored of its members Brother Robert L. Nicks of Dickson, TN with a plaque from the National Headquarters in recognition of his 100th Birthday. The town of Dickson honored Mr. Nicks with a tribute dinner and Sigma Nu was excited to be a part of his 100th birthday celebration. Mr. Nicks was initiated as badge number 161. Today, the chapter has over 1540 members.
