Fall 2021 Recruitment
This year Fall 2021 recruitment started the first day of classes with virtual orientation. This was followed by two nights of virtual meet the chapter rounds on Thursday and Friday evening. The next rounds were held at the Sigma Nu house. The fall candidate class won the annual fraternity Pledge Bowl sponsored by Campus Outreach Ministries. The chapter kicked off their fall social schedule with the annual Riverboat cruise date party to welcome the new candidates to the chapter. The chapter initiated 53 brothers in October after an eight-week candidate program. This represents the largest initiated class in the history of the Epsilon Eta chapter. Sigma Nu is one of only three chapters on campus to sign 29 or more new members ten years in a row.
Sigma Nu wins IM Fall Soccer Championship
The chapter won the IM Soccer Championship during Fall Semester. The team went 5-0 this fall and defeated Alpha Tau Omega 4-3 in the semi-finals and Sigma Chi 8-0 in the finals.
Fall Snake Daze for Camp Koinonia
Each Fall Semester the chapter hosts their annual philanthropy event Snake Daze competition between sorority chapters. This year nine different sororities participated in the two-day Snake Daze event. This fall the events consisted of a banner competition, flag football and volleyball. Each sorority team is coached by two brothers. The chapter raised and donated $2,500 to Camp Koinonia.
Tindall/Curtis Alumni Scholarships Presented
Each fall semester for the past six years the alumni of the Epsilon Eta Chapter have awarded scholarships to deserving brothers. The Dan Tindall (EH #1525)/Steve Curtis (EH #727) Scholarships honors two brother who has entered the Chapter Eternal. The alumni have raised and awarded $68,000 in scholarships over the past six years.
The four Fall 2021 $3,000 scholarship winners are ----
Charlie Evans --- a senior from Germantown, TN majoring in Religious Studies. Charlie served this chapter this year as the chapter Chaplain. On campus, Charlie has served in a leadership role with RUF (Reformed University Fellowship).
Jack Shelton --- a junior from Memphis, TN majoring in Finance. Jack served the chapter this year as the LEAD chair and will be the Commander for 2022-23. He is in the Air Force ROTC program, a Senator in SGA and served as an RA in North Carrick during his sophomore year.
Spencer Glover – a senior from Knoxville, TN is a Business Analytics major. Spencer is a member of the SGA Senate and has served the chapter on numerous committees.
Anthony Davis --- a sophomore from Memphis, TN majoring in Accounting. Anthony served as the chapter treasurer during the past year and a member of the Finance Committee.
Sigma Nu wins Big Orange Give Fourth Year in A Row
Each November, the UT Foundation sponsors their annual Big Orange Give. UT received over 9,000 donations in one day. Annually during the Big Orange Give, UT conducts The Greek Challenge. The Greek Challenge is sponsored by Ron and Don Frieson (Kappa Alpha Psi). This year the chapters were divided into chapter size based on chapter size wit the winner chapter in each category receiving an additional $1,000. Sigma Nu won the large chapter category for the fourth year in a row with 233 donations. The chapter received over $100,000 in money raised and pledged.
Fall 2021 Family Weekend
The chapter continued their tradition of hosting their families for Fall Family Weekend in September. The Friday evening event was held at The Foundry. The Foundry is located on the World Fair Site in downtown Knoxville. Saturday morning the chapter hosted a drop-in breakfast for their parents. The event was attended by 340 brothers and their family members. On Sunday afternoon almost 60 brothers plus a few parents spent the afternoon golfing at Egwani Farms.
Chapter Visits Football Locker Room
Fall 2021 saw the chapter bring back the tradition of visiting the Football Locker Room during football season. The chapter saw the locker room and the media center as part of the tour. It is always fun to have pictures at the I Give My All for Tennessee sign and practice their new conference skills in the media center.
Homecoming 2021
The chapter participated in Homecoming 2021 with Phi Mu this fall. The groups combined to compete in the Tower of Cans competition, chalk Ped Walkway, the banner competition, large banner competition, Lawn Display and Smokey’s Howl.
